Responsibilities: I'm usually involved in anything that needs focused attention, a plan or a strategy and requires some specific actions...you know, all that stuff in the life of a church that just needs to be coordinated! Whether helping people connect with our church, a LifeGroup or serving opportunity, planning a special event, leveraging established community relationships, problem-solving, asking the tough questions or cooking for 200, my ultimate goal is to know Christ more and make him known.
How long at CCC: Serving in various positions since the launch of CCC.
My faith journey: I grew up with godly parents who modeled Christ for me daily. I publicly recognized Christ as Lord and was baptized when I was 11. I read the Bible, tried hard to be good, went to church three times a week, put on a great show when anyone was looking and then figured out as I became a parent myself that my faith was not yet my own... I was still relying on "my parents' religion" and my own efforts to please God. As a very young mom, I found freedom, strength, joy and peace in trusting Christ completely... bringing nothing to the equation.
Family: I'm married to Adam. Between the two of us, we have three amazing grown up daughters. Adam brought twin girls to the mix, Jamie and Carolyn, and I have my Abigail.
I also have special skills as "the baby whisperer" and am happy to demonstrate any Sunday morning with your baby aged 0-24 months. :)
Passions for the Kingdom of God: God has gifted me with faith, service, leadership, administration and discernment. Not only do I get to work this out in our church family but also in my full-time role as Director of Communications & Generosity for Converge Worldwide, a movement multiplying transformational churches.
Favorite verse: In Romans 8, Paul shares the freedom we experience in Christ, the power source to live a life devoted to Christ (the Spirit), vividly describes pain, suffering, danger and loss that can occur in the course of our lives and then sums it all up this way: "For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." Wow.
I love the lyrical style and worshipful content of most of the Psalms and who can pass up a Proverb that makes you just sit and think?
I love discovering the Biblical connections wrapped in cultural contexts, seeing the threads of God's redemptive plan running from Genesis through Revelation and being fascinated at God's love, faithfulness and sovereignty expressed in his word.
Places I've lived: I grew up in Melbourne, Florida. Yep, I'm one of the few Floridians still left here! I've lived in other places, near and far. But now I just say, "I'm from Celebration!" I say "y'all" regularly and I have noticed the "long o" appearing in a great deal of my dialog (guess that's from hanging around with Gregg and Heidi). But don't let that confuse you. I am not from Minnesota.
In my free time, I love to: I love to travel, read, cook, bake, have a party, swim, spend time with close friends and family, sing with my earphones in and take naps.
Books I recommend:
Crazy Love by Francis Chan:: all about understanding God's love toward us and living like it
Anything by C.S. Lewis, John Piper, Alan Hirsch and a bunch of other eclectic types of books just for fun.
Reading now... Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World by Michael Hyatt. It is "a step-by-step guide for anyone with something to say or sell." Very practical information chock full of strategy stuff.
