Your Heart and the 10 Commandments

Sin is a failure to conform to the moral law of God—not only in what you do, but in what you fail to do; not only in your actions, but even in your attitude or motivation.  It’s possible to look compliant on the outside but inside still be completely out of alignment with God.

One of the functions of the law is to reveal our sin—our lack of conformity to God’s holy character.

You could do a quick check of your life by looking into your heart, at your actions and attitudes, in light of a summary of God’s Law, the 10 commandments—honestly answering the following questions:

1. Have I ever failed to make God the highest priority in my life?

2. Have I ever found my satisfaction or identity in something other than God?

3. Have I ever used God’s name lightly?

4. Have I ever been restless because I was not trusting Christ?

5. Have I ever failed to honor my parents?

6. Have I ever had a hateful thought toward someone?

7. Have I ever had a lustful thought?

8. Have I ever taken anything that does not belong to me?

9. Have I ever said something that was not completely true?

10. Have I ever wanted what someone else has?
