"We are not capable of living the Christian life alone. It is a life shared with others. We all need encouragement, prayer, instruction, and correction. Without vital connections to other Christians, all the 'one another' commands the Bible gives go unfulfilled."
So reads the description of the third of our "Four Pursuits" at Celebration Community Church. It takes time, inconvenience, effort, and initiative to live what Jesus taught about life together as His followers.
We believe that “Connection” happens primarily within the small-group life of a church. At Celebration Community Church, we call our small groups "Life Groups," since this is where we share our Christian lives with others.
Life Groups at CCC launch in February of 2010.
Top 5 Things We Want You to Know about Life Groups
Life Groups...
1. ...take place in cycles.
We will ask our Life Groups to meet weekly for 3 cycles throughout the year: Fall, Winter, and Spring. Each cycle will last for approximately 10 weeks. This provides some natural breaks throughout the year for new people to enter into groups, new groups to form, and if needed, it allows people to take a break for a cycle. Our hope is that from cycle-to-cycle you'll want to keep meeting with the same group of people as the relationships continue to deepen. We encourage groups to take a break from weekly meetings during the Summer cycle, but if you want to plan some fun activities, we definitely won't stop you!
2. ...focus on doing life together as Christ-followers.
We are not capable of living the Christian life alone. It is a life shared with others. We all need encouragement, prayer, instruction, and correction. Without vital connections to other Christians, all the "one another" commands of the Bible go unfulfilled. It takes time, effort, initiative, and sometimes inconvenience to live what Jesus taught about life together as His followers. But when we love one another, help carry each other's burdens, lay our lives down for each other, God manifests his presence in profoundly attractive ways!
3. ...seek to apply Sunday sermons.
The purpose of Life Groups is not to engage in another in-depth Bible study, as important as those are. Instead, we want to focus on applying the Bible to our lives and becoming more devoted followers of Christ. To this end, our groups will dedicate a portion of time each week to getting really practical with the sermons that are being preached on Sunday morning.
4. ...will strive for growth.
We want our groups to think missionally about raising up new group leaders and giving birth to new groups. The size of our groups will always be in flux. When a group continues to grow in size, we want you to begin to pray about commissioning and sending out someone from your group to start a new Life Group. This will provide an opportunity for new attenders at CCC to be part of the Life Group experience. Always be thinking about how we can get more people connected in this way!
5. ...are a work in progress.
Just as we, as individual Christ-followers, are a work in progress, so is our new Life Group ministry. There are probably going to be a number of tweaks that need to be made as we move forward. Initially, we might not have a group that meets on the particular evening you are available. Some groups will fill up fast and will look to multiply soon. Others will take a while to grow. We ask for your patience and prayers as we take these first steps.
